Goodbye North Island

የታተመ: 11.12.2018

My time on the North Island is coming to an end. Around 12:00 pm, I arrive at the ferry port in Wellington after an uneventful 200km drive and join the line of waiting vehicles. It's impressive how smoothly the trucks reverse into the ferry's cargo hold, many campervan drivers are slower going forward. With a few pictures of Wellington, I say goodbye to the North Island with the feeling of having seen a lot but still not enough... I guess I'll have to come back again... with the onboard mechanic. In Picton, I quickly disembark, turn southwest, and drive a bit towards Nelson. The road is amazing, not 20m straight ahead, 90° curves to the left and right, always along the mountainside and up and down, and on the right-hand side, the sea with small bays and the offshore islands. I park at the same campground as on the way there, under the big walnut tree. For dinner, I have turkey stir-fry with noodles in cheese sauce, along with my standard salad. Tomorrow, I'll see if I can make it to Wharariki Beach, the northernmost point of the South Island.
