On Saturday, we set off from San Guilioano Terme towards Florence.
After endlessly wandering around the very narrow streets in search of a parking space (the parking garages there are simply inserted into the residential buildings and definitely too narrow for our castle in the air), we found a nice parking space a bit off the beaten path. After walking through the really narrow streets, I was very surprised that I didn't hit any scooters, Italians, or historical buildings.
It didn't take long on foot to reach the beautiful center of Florence. This time we were prepared and took photos of the street names so that we wouldn't wander around for hours again.
We were completely impressed by the beautiful architecture in Florence and its small but slightly overcrowded street markets.
We admired everything for a while and then found a nice spot on a huge staircase with street music in the background. The 24 degrees and sunshine were perfectly enjoyable there. Even though a delicious gelato exceeded our price range by far. We had already put a lot of money into an Italian SIM card with sufficient data volume beforehand.
Since we easily found our way back to our yellow rolling home, we were able to enjoy the wonderful architecture and bustling streetscape even more on the way back and made another stop in a small park. There, we let the sun shine on us a little longer.
Unfortunately, we couldn't find a suitable place to sleep for our campervan, so we headed towards Siena, which was our next major stop.
Today, we wanted to take care of our power supply and the window that couldn't be closed properly.
After a few attempts, I was really desperate because that one screw just didn't want to let go of the door. Then an Italian bus driver came by and asked, 'Un poco problemi?' I explained the problem to him with hand gestures and broken English, which he didn't understand, and he took out his huge toolbox from his bus. He quickly broke part of the side panel out of its holder and together we were able to close the window. He told me that I shouldn't open the window so wide in the future, I think, and put his tools away. After the eventful but sweaty repair, he brought us two ice-cold bottles of water and all I could say was 'Mille gracie.'
All in all, the window is closed again, the shining sun has given us a tan, and our batteries are fully charged. It was an outstanding day. Tomorrow, let's explore Siena and enjoy the view of the vineyards a little longer.
