Day 33 - Lecture

የታተመ: 06.12.2017

My friend Javier didn't come to school today. Maybe I scared him off. By giving him a notebook yesterday, with the lines of the first grade, to practice writing. Plus homework. The last one was probably too much. I would like to know what's going on at his home. Maybe he has to take care of his younger siblings after school. Or he has to fight against obstacles just to be able to join the project. Because at 15 years old, he should already be contributing to the household income. Maybe he's just plain lazy. Let's see if he shows up again tomorrow.

Today was the international day of lectures. At least for Professor Luis. The "Cats" took a little test yesterday. To see where the kids stand. Actually ridiculously easy, because Luis distributed the tasks along with the answers beforehand. Everyone had the whole weekend to study. The result is devastating: "my" Manuel scored 90 out of 100 points, two students got 70, and the rest got between 0 and 20 points. Luis talked for almost an hour. It was dead silent. He has a way of scolding the children without getting personal, and in a way that everyone realizes how important his work and the well-being of the children are to him, phenomenal. He studied something entirely different, has been working here for 7 years, and turned down a well-paid job for it. Nevertheless, there have to be consequences. In January, after the holidays, the test will be retaken. Probably only then will there be the Christmas present. In the end, Luis asked three times: "So, what will you do in the future?" - Everyone: "Study!", each time a little louder. Then they were dismissed. Two minutes later, I asked Teodoro: "So, what will you do?" - Answer: "I will go play!"

Temperature 32 degrees, moderate wind, hardly any clouds.
