The morning starts with cloudy sky and oatmeal. I check the tents at the campsite to find out when people want to leave. With the boat at 12, I can go over to the Mitico Lodge to use the Wi-Fi quickly. The signal is just enough for bumpy FaceTime calls. I have lunch with Pablo, three interns, and an old man who all work at the lodge. There is roast beef, meaning for me there is a spoonful of chunky mashed potatoes and a side salad. Too bad. The interns are teaching me swear words. At 2:30 p.m., we zoom back across the lake. There are fresh fruits on the boat; there are even avocados, an absolute novelty. In the evening, we build a greenhouse for the vegetable garden. It consists of connectable metal rods and a transparent plastic sheet. There used to be instructions, but chief builder Pati only has a video of last season's finished greenhouse on her phone. After three attempts at putting it together and taking it apart, it finally looks right. In the evening, for a change, we have rice again. I fry two eggs with it, which are desperately needed after the meager lunch of salad and mashed potatoes to meet my high calorie consumption.
