On Thursday night, we finally managed to leave Auckland after a longer stop than planned. We went to the Chinese restaurant in the evening and then set off to avoid the traffic jam that forms around Auckland during the day. We eventually stopped to sleep along the way, as usual, on the side of the road at a park corner.
The next day, we headed to Thames for breakfast. On the way to Coromandel Town, we stopped at the Rapaura Water Gardens. We took some cool pictures of the waterfalls there.
The next day, we drove on empty roads to Hahei, where we visited Cathedral Cove. While Robin took photos of the unfortunately overcrowded beach, I climbed into a cave that could only be reached from the water. I encountered a few crab-sized crabs along the way. Unfortunately, catching them without a bucket is somewhat pointless.
Afterwards, we went to the hot water beach. This is a beach with hot springs underneath. A part of the beach is therefore heated. You can go there, dig a hole, and have your own warm pool. But you should be careful not to sit directly above the spring, as it gets extremely hot.
But the highlight of the day: While we were sitting in our pool on the beach, a seagull flew by and pooped perfectly on Robin's shoulder.
On Tuesday, we were in Raglan, where I had my last kiteboarding lessons. The conditions were perfect and it was incredibly fun. Now we are back in Auckland to get the car repaired (issue with the transmission), but if the wind continues to be stable, I can go kiteboarding again soon.
