Early in the morning, around 6 o'clock, I woke up. With a Cliffbar breakfast, I made my way to Ørnes. My plan was to take a ferry from there to Vassdalsvik, but unfortunately, I hadn't checked the schedules beforehand. When I arrived at the pier, there was no connection on Saturday mornings. The earliest one would only arrive at 1 pm, with the knowledge that it would rain in the afternoon. The whole situation made me very dissatisfied. Even my plan to get some breakfast at the supermarket was thwarted by the Saturday opening hours. I made myself a cereal and sat on a bench in front of the supermarket. What should I do?!? 10 minutes later, a car drove into the parking lot, a man got out and also wanted to go to the shop. When he noticed that it was closed, he saw me and asked what I was doing here. I quickly explained everything to him and he said... I have a boat and was planning to go somewhere anyway, I can drop you off on the other side in Vassdalsvik. I was a bit incredulous, before I could give him an answer, he added... If I feel like going on an island trip, he would also pick up his nephew with his wife, they would come along too. I could join them if I wanted. It took me a moment to understand everything. I told him I would come to the harbor with him and think about what to do. I said yes. With the bike on the boat, we headed to his summer house where the other two invited us for breakfast. Afterwards, the four of us headed towards Bolga and saw 2 dwarf whales playing in the water along the way. Upon arrival in Bolga, we climbed a 300m hill and walked through a rock crevice in the middle of the island. It was an incredibly beautiful sunny day. On the way back, Magnus told me that I could stay at his house overnight and he would take me to the ferry tomorrow. I accepted this offer as well. We had pizza for dinner and talked about our lives. Magnus has recently retired and travels a lot. He speaks Norwegian, English, French, and Swahili, as he worked in Kenya for 3 years in the 80s. It was a wonderful evening with good conversations. I have grown fond of Magnus. I am very grateful to him for the shower, laundry, food, and chain oil for the bike. It had also started raining in the evening, which makes having a roof over my head even more valuable. What a day. Unbelievable...
Greetings from home
