If we already felt restricted in our movement in Chiang Mai due to the heat, Pai has taken it to another level. 42 degrees, which according to the internet feels like 50 degrees, it feels like running into a wall of heat when you leave an air-conditioned room.
Pai is a small town 130 km northwest of Chiang Mai, surrounded by mountains. There are waterfalls, hot springs, hiking opportunities, beautiful viewpoints, etc.
However, we have never seen so many people with scraped or bandaged legs as here.
On a scooter ride to the hot springs for swimming, we got caught in a drug police control. They searched us and our entire luggage including wallets. Do we look like that?
A little highlight was the Rabbit Cafe, where we went every day.
It is not only the heat that dampens the joy, but also the long dryness that has completely dried out the country.
Nevertheless, it was worth the trip. Tomorrow we will return to Chiang Mai, hoping to get a different bus driver than on the way here. It was an incredible rally, as if he wanted to set a speed record in the 130 km long curvy road.
