On Monday, April 2nd, we had breakfast and set off towards Oudtshorn. First, we visited an ostrich farm. At the beginning, it was a cool and very informative tour. For example, ostriches have a brain weighing 30 grams and an eye weighing 60 grams. So they are not the smartest animals, but they can survive in the wild for up to 50 years. They can completely cut a lion with a toenail. So never mess with an ostrich:D In the end, it turned into shit when we were led into a cage. There were 3 ostriches inside and a sack was forcibly pulled over their heads to show us how it works when you want to ride them. 2 of us rode on them and then we left the cage. This is the biggest animal cruelty, as the ostrich's hips break after the 5th time and it has to be euthanized.
We told the guides that we did not want to support something like that and they were shocked too, as they usually always go to a farm where this is not a problem. So the mood after the farm was not very good. And then it got worse. When we left the farm with the truck, we drove into a ditch and the truck was on the verge of tipping over. We had to decide whether to get out or stay seated. We chose to stay seated and Frank skillfully maneuvered us out of the ditch. That was a scare!
We then drove to Klein Karoo. It was constantly changing vegetation. We went through mountains, forests, and sometimes even deserts, all within a short period of time. It's breathtaking what nature can do.
We reached the Cango Caves. The cave was great and we had an even better guide. She referred to herself as a sexy mama and it was really funny to take the tour with her. In the end, she even sang in a large section of the cave :D
Afterwards, we drove to the accommodation. It was the best one, alongside Swaziland. We were greeted with juice, the surroundings were breathtaking, and all we had to do was open the door and have a direct view of the mountains. The rooms were beautiful and lovingly furnished. There was even a letter addressed to our names. So I can only recommend the Thabile Lodge in South Africa! The garden and pool area were also beautiful, and the conservatory where the restaurant was located was really cozy. As a crowning glory, we had ostrich fillet with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes for dinner. I haven't eaten anything so delicious in a long time! I also had a local gin and tonic and for dessert, we had the most amazing cheesecake with foam ice cream!!! :D
On Tuesday, April 3rd, we got up a little earlier and watched the sunrise in front of our front door.
Then we had a delicious and lovingly prepared breakfast. I got a hard-boiled egg with a smiley face drawn on it - so cute!
Afterwards, we drove to Ronnies Sex Shop on Route 66. They serve burgers and milkshakes there. The name came about because Ronnie from the 70s didn't have many friends and his little shop (Ronnies Shop) wasn't doing well. He went on holiday and some people from the village wanted to tease him and therefore added the word "Sex". Since then, the store has been doing great and people from all over the world visit it. All the walls are covered in writing and there are bras and underwear hanging everywhere :D
After a delicious peanut shake, we made a short shopping stop and then drove to the accommodation. We all threw ourselves into the pool for a bit and then went to dinner. In the evening, we played a game of billiards, which I failed miserably at, and we gave our little farewell speech to our guides. We really were a great travel group and became a small family :)
