Shortly before 10 a.m. we arrive at the campsite in Raglan. Just in time for closing time, or so we thought. Google isn't always right. Luckily the security boy is nice enough to let us check in anyway. We can stand between lots of mobile homes. We start the morning with a long run, a relaxed breakfast and then look at the surf spot. There are two large trailers in the parking lot where you can rent a Neo and a board for 35 New Zealand dollars. You should then bring it back after a few hours. We'll go shopping first and then pick up the equipment. After trying to take a photo, we applied a lot of cream again and peed about 5 times, then we finally went into the water. It's incredibly fun, but also tiring, especially after our morning running session. We deserve a hearty lunch. In the afternoon we stroll through the city and through some surf shops. WITHOUT buying anything, I'm very proud of us. We plan two surf sessions for the next day. But unfortunately the weather puts a damper on our plans. Instead, Maren makes a deluxe breakfast and we drive to a waterfall, where we walk down 274 steps and up again. Then a very curvy, foggy road with lots of potholes to a black beach. We only stay there for a short time, it's far too cold and we don't particularly feel like the disgusting drizzle. Back in Raglan, Maren treats herself to fish and chips and I treat myself to chips and a very strange hot dog. The next morning greets us with sunshine and we look forward to another session in the water. Today we even dare to go out into the green water. Exhausting our strength, we paddle out and suddenly the waves were so high that we were washed ashore again in no time and far too far to the side. So we go back to the beach, all the way back to land and back into the water. However, we no longer have the strength to paddle into the green again. In the evening we want to watch the first sunset, but unfortunately there are thick, fat, black clouds... so no sunset for us.. :(
After I cleaned Willi's entire inside window a few days ago, today it's time for the outside windows. Then we continue to Cambridge, where we go shopping and drive on to the next campsite.
