Sado - Flight and Arrival

First of all, hello and welcome to my little travel blog. I will try to write something every few days, but let's see how long I can keep it up. xD

On May 5th, my mom drops me off at Frankfurt Airport. After checking in my luggage and having a tea, I proceed to the security check. I immediately get a random explosive check on my backpack. Nothing. Surprise.

The flight departs with a slight delay at around 14:30 and lasts 12.5 hours. I arrive in Japan at around 11:00 and I am picked up by a staff member. She accompanies me to Tokyo's main train station and helps me buy tickets for the Shinkansen. From the main station, I have to take a two-hour ride on the bullet train and then transfer to a bus to get to the port. I already experience the first disruption on the train. We are used to it by the German Railway, but in Japan it is rather unusual. The train cannot continue for a few minutes due to an earthquake, but it doesn't have to stop for long. When I arrive at Joetsu station, I realize that I won't be able to catch the last ferry because of the delay of my flight and the train. The trains to the alternative port are not operating anymore due to the earthquake. So, I have no choice but to stay overnight in Joetsu and continue my journey the next day. Extremely tired but also relieved that I can take a break, I fall into bed after getting some snacks from the konbini (a small store, like a gas station store without the gas station). About four hours later, I wake up again because my bed is shaking. What kind of stupid bed is this, I want to sleep! >:c Due to the jet lag, I unfortunately can't go back to sleep and half an hour later, I have the realization that it was an earthquake that woke me up.

The next morning, after about two more hours of sleep, I have breakfast and make my way to the bus station. It is not far, but it takes about three hours until my bus arrives. Since I can't do much with the huge suitcase, I sit on a bench and read. The bus arrives at 12:15 and takes about three quarters of an hour. At the port, I buy a ticket for the ferry to Sado and finally made it. The ferry takes about two and a half hours to Sado, where I am picked up by another staff member who drives me to Kononji Temple. There, I will spend the next two months and as soon as I arrive, I know that I like it here. Very old wooden buildings, a pond with loudly croaking frogs, and many beautiful, well-kept plants. I sleep in a tatami room and after setting up my place, I receive a short presentation about the island and the tasks we will be doing in the next few weeks. After dinner, I can finally get some sleep.
