XI. Laguna de Apoyo & Hitchhiking

Gepubliseer: 04.09.2016

Yesterday, I went to Laguna de Apoyo with three Canadian volunteers, not far from Granada. Marie, who is currently sleeping in a tent on the premises with her boyfriend Nicos and is a friend of the house, was also there, along with her daughter Mahita, who immediately adopted me as her big sister.

We went there in a car belonging to a couple who had made a stop here and coincidentally had the lagoon next on their list. Because it rained in the morning and with a child everything takes a bit longer, we didn't leave until the afternoon.

The lagoon

The lagoon is very old and the deepest and cleanest in all of Granada. The water is clear and warm like broth, but it has a refreshing undercurrent. There are some hotels around it, but from the water you only see a lot of green, and sometimes you can even hear some monkeys screaming.

Because it was so beautiful and we wanted to stay in the water for hours, we decided not to take the last public bus back to Granada. Instead, as the sun was setting, we spent our money on fresh mangoes and stood by the side of the road - Mahita in the front with her thumb out. Pretty soon, a pickup truck stopped and we made ourselves comfortable in the back, eating mangoes and enjoying the breeze. So at least we made it to the outskirts of Granada and were able to transfer to a shared taxi, which are very cheap within a city.

Stomach problems are almost gone (the mangoes surely helped), and this morning I had a cold cocoa with real Nicaraguan cocoa and sugar - mmmh!

Now I'm sitting in the kitchen with Mahita, writing a blog post, wearing a thin sweater for the first time in the past two weeks because the air has cooled down quite a bit - no wonder it has been raining for four hours! It's not cold, but I'm not used to not sweating anymore :)

I'm looking forward to the beginning of the new week, especially since I have agreed to continue the clown workshop on a regular basis in a slightly modified form - because everyone enjoyed it, but the leader no longer lives here, next to the broth.
