Hello,
after a few exhausting travel days, we are checking in again. The flight went well, except that we had three separate flights because it was cheaper. That means picking up luggage and visas in Singapore and Jakarta, and then going back in and queuing up at the baggage check. What worked out well in Singapore within the two hours we had, became quite tight in Jakarta because the infrastructure was not particularly great. Well, the onward flight to Denpasar was delayed anyway, so we had to wait even longer.
In Nusa Dua, Susan (the woman who organizes everything related to my stay and work at the school; she is very helpful and takes care of everything) organized a room and scooter for us, so we also went to the school on the 30th. Jakob wanted to see where he will start working in a month.
The school is really familiar, all the children greeted us immediately and the school atmosphere cannot be compared to Germany in any way: very relaxed and easy-going - even for an elementary school.
In the afternoon, we took a ferry for five hours to Lombok, the neighboring island of Bali.
Lombok is very non-touristy. Unfortunately, we realized this when we arrived in Lembar by ferry at night and there was not a single accommodation for us in the town. So we took a taxi (unfortunately we already had to do this several times because public transportation is practically non-existent) to Mataram, the largest city in Lombok. The accommodation was great, but there is nothing going on in the city, so today we took a taxi to Sengigi, one of the main tourist places next to Kuta and the Gilis.
There, we enjoyed the beautiful beach and the crystal-clear water - no comparison to Thailand. Unfortunately, the pictures hardly convey the reality. I uploaded a picture of a fish search - have fun. But even here, the island feels really empty, which is a nice change after Bangkok.
Now we have a scooter and are exploring the island on our own.
Yours, Teri Yaki
