The NORTON winery, located south of Mendoza, was founded in 1895 by British railway engineer Edmund Norton and taken over by Gernot Langes - Swarovski from Wattens / Tyrol in 1989. Under his ownership, the winery has become one of the leading wineries in the region.
The estate is huge - wine is grown on almost 700 hectares across 5 farms, with a focus on the Argentine specialty, Malbec, and recently the Austrian curiosity, 'Grüner Veltliner'.
We took a tour - a short visit to the vineyard (at 34 degrees Celsius...) and then explored the extensive cellar facilities and the impressive bottle storage. We concluded the visit with a lunch at the affiliated restaurant, 'La Vid', where you can choose between an 8 or 3-course menu, accompanied by matching wines.
