NORTH MACEDONIA!
Two days in North Macedonia and already so many experiences. When entering North Macedonia from the southern part of Ohrid Lake, right after the border with Albania, you will find the St. Naum Monastery. The karst springs that feed Ohrid Lake originate here. By the way, this is the oldest lake in the world. The largest part of the lake is located in North Macedonia and the smaller part in Albania.
We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the monastery and the flower gardens in the outdoor areas. You can take boat trips to the karst springs there. This landscape is somewhat similar to the Spreewald.
From there, we only had a few kilometers to go to the Bay of Bones. In this bay, remains of a over 3000-year-old fishing village were found in the 1990s and reconstructed faithfully in a small part in the following years. We highly recommend visiting this museum.
Right after, we visited Ohrid. A city with historic architecture combined with modern and luxurious facilities. After an extensive city tour, we tucked ourselves into a small secluded alley and visited a typical local restaurant. We haven't eaten this delicious and affordable on this trip so far.
1 beer, 1 Schweppes, 1 kebab, 1 hamburger, and feta cheese salad for a total of 12.40 euros - unbeatable.
Quite late in the evening, we found the Rino Campsite in the north and treated ourselves to an additional beautiful day here.
