We are on the move again! After six intense and busy months at home, we have packed our saddlebags and loaded our bikes. Our journey begins in Geneva.
Along the Via Rhona (EuroVelo 17), we will cycle to the Mediterranean Sea, take the ferry from Marseille to Corsica, and then explore Sardinia and Sicily. Then we'll see how much time we have to make our way back north through southern Italy. We plan to be on the road for three months!
April 15th - 24th
The weather is quite good for mid-April. We start in Geneva at noon under sunny skies and 20 degrees. But the next few days will be very changeable, sometimes warm, sometimes cold and rainy, always windy.
For the first two nights, we will stay with Warmshowers hosts, who will cook for us. We will sit together comfortably with wine and have interesting evenings, and then we will mostly camp.
The Rhone is not often visible until Lyon, so we will ride on small country roads through beautiful hilly landscapes.
We really liked Lyon, Avignon, and Arles.
The bike path is well developed from Lyon to Arles, just as we are used to in France. We had a lot of headwinds, which made cycling difficult. It's supposed to always be north wind here, but we got the opposite!
On the last stage towards the sea, the headwind turned into a storm and we had to give up shortly before reaching our destination. We turned around and took the train the last few kilometers to Marseille. We arrived in Bastia on Corsica on the same evening by ferry.
We are enjoying being on the road with our bikes again!!!
