The Three Seasons

Gepubliseer: 25.02.2022

On 14.02 we start from Karlsruhe towards southern France. It is not easy to plan a meaningful route, as hardly any places are open at this time. This results in us experiencing some surprises. Our first destination is the Campsite Domaine De Longemer in Xonrupt. The further we drive into the mountains, the more it becomes clear to us that we might end up in the snow. When we arrive, we realize that it will be a winter camping day. The weather has left its mark on the site and it is partly just a huge mud puddle. The temperatures drop below zero and we are not well equipped clothing-wise for snow and cold. But luckily we only stay for one night and we simply hope to get the car and Polly out of the mud unharmed. To top it all off, it snows and rains the next morning. And unfortunately, Polly doesn't seem to be completely watertight anymore and the water finds its way through our rear window. It takes us a little longer to get to the next spot, as the snow later turns into continuous rain and heavy rain.

After a long journey and a lot of rain, we arrive at Camping Des 2 Rives. For once, we are welcomed in German and enjoy a few hours where it doesn't rain and we can spend some time outside. The next morning everything is once again under water and we hope to get the car and Polly off the site without any damage. A camper van has to be pulled off a meadow there. We continue on our way south.

The next stop is once again in the mountains. But thank God without snow, but instead - as it should be - with continuous rain. We check in at Camping Le Mpulin du Teinturier in Saint-Martin-Valmeroux. We are the only camping guests here. The weather is slowly becoming exhausting. But hopefully we will soon arrive in the south. The next morning we are surprised to find that we are not far from the sea. The journey there is beautiful, through the mountains, through small medieval towns and canyons between the mountains until we soon see the sea and start sweating with sweaters on.
