Next, we drove to Trang An. There is a river that meanders through the many mountains and can be navigated by small boats. On a boat, there is a rower and up to 6 passengers who can also help to propel the boat forward. The landscape has a mystical atmosphere with the many mountains that emerge on the horizon, and on that day, the weather was foggy and cloudy, which created a slightly eerie atmosphere. The boat ride (which is much more stable than it initially appears) goes through caves, which are often so low that you have to duck to avoid hitting your head. Several stops were made on islands where you could visit temples, and finally on an island where King Kong was filmed. Overall, Ninh Binh is a beautiful area with a dreamlike Asian landscape and definitely worth a visit, even if it requires a long journey (like ours) and you are almost overwhelmed by crowds of people (although we saw very few foreigners).
