A reunion in the capital - Bogotá (Colombia)

Gepubliseer: 20.04.2023

Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and a very busy city, no wonder with its approximately 8 million inhabitants. With the surrounding regions, over 10 million people live in the Bogotá metropolitan area. We are here again high up in the Andes at 2,625m. Therefore, the weather is usually quite unpredictable. Sun, clouds, rain, and wind are the order of the day. It is also worth mentioning that the city gets a very clean water from the surrounding mountains. Together with Medellín, these two cities are one of the few places in South America where you can safely drink tap water.

We also had a visit from Vienna, from our friend Marcel. We were especially looking forward to that. We would spend the next month in Colombia with him.

We felt very comfortable in the bustling streets of Bogotá. Between red brick houses sprayed with graffiti, high glazed office buildings tower up again and again. We explored the neighborhoods around our accommodation (Hobu Hostel), as well as the old town (La Candeleria). You could also find really good food from all over the world here, which made us very happy, because South America has not been a culinary highlight so far. We also did not miss the famous Gold Museum (museo del oro). There, you could learn about the history of gold in South America and its significance for humans, and admire many shiny exhibits.

Of course, we also sat down with a few glasses (bottles) of wine, because after such a long time, there was a lot to talk about. However, it wasn't that easy to get to the delicious drop without a bottle opener. But a true Austrian always knows how to help himself when something stands between him and alcohol. In this case, the cork was removed with a screw, a rope, and a cooking spoon, and with almost surgical precision.
