We liked it here from the very first moment... Of course, this city is also crowded and choked with traffic... But we had a great room in the middle of the old town, a lively but pleasant neighborhood, and we met nice people... Besides, there was good food and fun beer bars... We simply sat in the evening on the typical mini plastic chairs and drank... The more people came, the more chairs were provided and the serving areas enlarged... The intersections are getting smaller for traffic, but the bar is getting bigger 😊 Still, you can already notice a certain difference to Saigon. Here in the north, everything seems a bit more backward, while Saigon is much more modern.
You can shop great here as well and get pretty much everything... particularly practical is the existing order of the established shops in the apparently chaotic Hanoi. There is a separate street for each craft, which simplifies everything in particular. For example, there is a pure optician street....or a street with only shoe stores. All workshops and tire dealers are also lined up house by house. All according to the motto "Competition brings business to life!" Very practical...no annoying running from A to B when you need something! ...unbeatably cheap too!... We were in a "glasses buying frenzy" 😊
Besides drinking and shopping, we also engaged in some cultural activities, visited a Water Puppet Show (very beautiful!!), were in the government district, and finally visited Uncle Ho. He is quite pale, poor guy 😉 The entire complex of the mausoleum is in top shape and they spared no expense. With all the cult around his person, Uncle Ho would surely turn in his grave, but he can't because he is well-guarded and perfectly preserved, probably has to lie there for eternity, even though he strictly spoke out against it during his lifetime. Only occasionally is he allowed out... to Russia...for his new complexion! 😉
