From the bustling city of Chiang Mai, I took a minivan on an extremely winding road to the 3-hour distant Pai. Pai is a beautiful small town in the mountains of northern Thailand with a very relaxed atmosphere.
The highlight in the town itself is the nightly night market with delicious street food from around the world. But the real highlights are of course outside the city. With our little scooter gang, David from Czech Republic, Lauren and Jeremy from California, and myself, we explored the area for 2 days. Fortunately, I made it through both days without any accidents. Unfortunately, Lauren had a fall, but only suffered a few abrasions.
On our tour, we visited several waterfalls, which didn't have much water due to the dry season, but still invited for a refreshing swim.
From several viewpoints, there were stunning views of the surrounding area.
For the sunset on the first day, we visited the amazingly beautiful Pai Canyon, where we walked along narrow paths down the cliff. And on the second day, we enjoyed the sunset from the White Buddha, which stands on a hill above the city.
In the huge Lod Cave, we were guided through the darkness by a lantern lady and could cross a part of the cave on a narrow wooden raft on the river. As a conclusion, we relaxed in one of the many hot springs around the city.
Pai, with its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, is definitely my favorite place in northern Thailand so far.
