Etosha National Park πŸ˜πŸ¦’

Gepubliseer: 08.10.2024

Well, I don't even know where to start, so much has happened here. When we arrived, we first had a little safari with our Lando and were able to see ostriches, oryx, and of course springboks. Afterwards, we set up our camp for the next 2 nights. Since we didn’t have showers at our last campsite, we thought we would go shower right away and avoid waiting in the evening. What we unfortunately didn’t know was that the water would be turned off in the afternoon. So we all stood there naked in the shower, but well, without water. However, we did notice that the water was still running from the faucets and managed to take a shower, or rather a sponge bath, there. Our campsite was also located right next to a waterhole for the wildlife, and we found ourselves there in the afternoon. We managed to observe some giraffes, rhinos, and zebras. But when they all continued on their way, so did we. Since Miriam had broken her hand, she couldn’t wash her hair by herself, so I or we quickly became her hairdressers at the outdoor faucet. When we were done, suddenly there was quite a commotion at the campsite, and we became curious. Suddenly, we could see a huge herd of elephants on their way to the water. We were able to observe them for quite a while. After dinner by the campfire, we had grilled marshmallows. However, this time we didn’t stay too long by the fire, because we wanted to check the waterhole again. We stayed there until about 11 in the evening. First, we could again observe giraffes and rhinos. Later, a smaller herd of elephants with their babies arrived. But suddenly, a lioness sneaked up. The first time seeing a lion in the wild, oh that was exciting! However, when it had enough water, we also made our way to bed. The next day finally brought the big safari. We set off right after breakfast in our jeeps. Right at the beginning, we could see a few kudus, followed by a rhino with a baby and many, many elephants. One of the highlights was definitely the cheetah on the hunt. As we drove further, we could even see lions drinking with their babies. Countless zebra herds and wildebeests. Again and again, we encountered various birds and some lizards. On our way to lunch, we could even see a lion guarding its prey, a zebra. Further back in the shade, a hyena was just waiting for an unsuspecting moment from the gigantic lion. After our lunch break, it got really extremely hot, so most animals were hiding in the shade. Still, we were able to see some giraffes and impalas. Throughout the day, we could see springboks everywhere, which make up the largest herd in the national park. In the afternoon, we were super happy about this successful day and spent the rest of the day at the pool. After dinner, we sat again by the waterhole next to the campsite. Here too, we could observe giraffes, rhinos, and elephants again. We even heard and saw lions roaring while fighting over a female. These days in Etosha were truly impressive! 🫢🏼
