Salta is the capital of the province of the same name in northern Argentina and is also known as "La linda" (the beautiful one). Since we didn't see much the night before, we wanted to explore the area after breakfast and made another attempt to get some cash.
At the fourth bank, the machine spat out a few notes for a horrendous fee.
Around midday we picked up the rental car and set off for Purmamarca, a small village in the north of Salta. On the three-hour drive we passed through smaller, fairly busy towns and green countryside. When we arrived in Purmamarca we checked into a guesthouse and rested briefly. Our bodies were probably forcing us to rest a bit after having been on the road almost non-stop for the last few weeks.
We walked a little through the town and visited the viewpoint of the “Cerro de los Siete Colores” - the mountain of seven colors. The many colors in the rocks are caused by different minerals in the rocks and in the area around Salta there seem to be endless amounts of these deposits.
The sunset here was also really beautiful to watch. Afterwards we went for dinner, which was at least not very substantial for Chris.
