Today, we took a break from hiking. We drove about an hour by car to Elgol. This place is really in the middle of nowhere!
From here, we started a four-hour AquaXplore tour. These are speedboats that require special gear to protect against the cold wind and getting wet. First, we went to the coast of the island Canna and observed the puffins. Then we had a one-hour stop on Canna and stocked up on snacks at a local shop. Interestingly, the shop owners have great trust in their customers. There's no one behind the counter and it’s completely self-service. This also means that there's a cash register with a few hundred pounds in it, unguarded. After the break, we took a tour around some of the Small Isles. They are called Sanday, Canna, Mhug, Rhum, Eigg, and Soay. There's a saying to help remember the names of the islands.
It's SANDAY. CANNA have a MHUG of RHUM and an EIGG, please? (Unfortunately, we forgot how SOAY fits into that)
On the way back, we had the opportunity to observe red deer and visit the wreck of a fishing trawler that sank in 2010. We also passed Queen's Beach, a sandy beach that Queen Elizabeth has visited twice in her life just to have tea here.
