The journey begins, off to the car with Dad, Mom, and Katrin.
I said goodbye to my best friends at home, who are on their way to Mallorca. It was a very beautiful moment, but now my journey begins.
Katrin is also with us, as she will be celebrating in Munich later with Barbara. As soon as we got in the car, Katrin and I opened a Weißbier and toasted to the fact that we will be drinking my first Weißbier in Germany together again. We arrived at the airport, Terminal 2 (Lufthansa), and Barbara joined us. And then it happened, the moment to take the often spoken 'Goodbye' seriously. Dad and I hugged each other tightly and for a long time, and we both cried. I have never seen my father so emotional, and it touched me deeply. Mom also cried, but she was able to hide her emotions a little. And in the next moment, it was just Katrin, Barbara, and me at the airport, I didn't really notice any other people anymore. Funny thing about the story, we walked through the terminal with two Weißbiers. We took some funny snapshots in a photo booth, which I always carry with me as a memory. Just wiped away the tears from the previous farewell, and already the next one. Many hugs and kisses and many tears, one last look back, and then I was alone.
'Now it's finally time!' The thought that the last time has passed so quickly.
Enjoy one last Bavarian Weißbier, and then it's time to board, on a fairly new Airbus A350-900.
On the plane, it was very luxurious, a great selection of movies and series, and very good food. However, I only got about 2-3 hours of effective sleep out of the 12-hour flight.
Something very new for me was an entry form, which is mandatory for every passenger, whether they are bringing food, dangerous substances, or weapons into Singapore. Since I was unsure about my large knife and my Grichtl bottle opener, I checked the boxes for weapons and animal products, which were later cleared without any problems during the inspection. But: better safe than sorry!
Upon arriving in Singapore, I sent the classic 'I have landed safely' text message home and explored the Singapore airport a bit. Very posh, clean, and tourist-friendly. Then it was time to withdraw Singapore dollars with my MasterCard, take the MRT (Metro), and go to the station (Aljunied/green line) that I had downloaded and marked in my offline map in wise anticipation.
