27.-30.03. - Haines Junction, Yukon

Gepubliseer: 31.03.2023

Our last week here in Yukon has already begun. Looking back, our 3 weeks here went by pretty quickly. We have to work hard again, as there are several tasks to be done. Most of our time during the day is spent at Ryan's shop (his workshop and his big 'playground'). Ryan has set himself (and us) the task of tidying up everything there. It started with screws and nails and then spread throughout the whole workshop. I have never seen such a mess in my life. Unfortunately, we feel like Ryan himself doesn't know what, and especially how, he wants it. We open one (cleaning) construction site after another, even though the previous one is not yet finished. There are still bolts, nuts, and washers in various boxes in the workshop that should not be sorted into the shelf yet. Many things that we consider 'garbage' should not be thrown away (because you might need them someday, somehow, somewhere: you don't need things until you need them). In addition to the aforementioned construction site of bolts, we were allowed to open several more: boards and strips, electronic waste, things for the free store, paints, varnishes, silicones, resins, and acrylics, as well as various dusty boxes to be sorted. Currently, the workshop looks worse than when we arrived - because everything is taken out of the shelf and placed in the middle of it. On March 28th, Caro was allowed to organize tie-down straps, various tools, children's toys, and bicycles, while I did a garbage run with Ryan and the children. That means taking garbage to the recycling center, recycling things if necessary, and putting unusable items in the free store. The whole process went like this: I had to throw all the garbage (sorted into hard and soft plastics, glass, cardboards, metals, and general garbage) into the different bins, and Ryan looked for things with the children in the free store that might be needed again (which will probably end up somewhere in the shop and clutter it again). Cooking food for 6 people is something we do in between. After our last week here, Ryan's workshop is slowly taking shape. Some corners can now really be seen. Nevertheless, there are still some cleaning sites that need to be sorted out - our successors will surely look forward to that. So we are spending relatively exhausting last days up here and looking forward to our upcoming time on the Sunshine Coast in Roberts Creek, BC. Tomorrow morning at 8:00 am, Ryan will drive us 160 km to Whitehorse airport. It's practically around the corner.
