On the way to Yellowknife

Gepubliseer: 10.08.2024

After the arduous journey to the Arctic Ocean, we first took a 3-day break and cleaned the camper.

After that, we decided to drive the Robert Campbell Highway. 580 km, of which 300 were gravel. Here, we were rewarded with 3 sightings of black bears.

While continuing on the Alaska Highway, we were able to observe and photograph two younger black bears wrestling and playing for about 20 minutes in complete peace. Certainly the most beautiful animal shots I have ever captured. Such luck is rare. Soon there will be a special blog with these pictures. So it’s worth sticking around...

When we left Watson Lake, we had to turn back due to an electrical problem with the Fiat and visit a workshop. Thankfully, it was resolved in an hour.

Afterwards, we drove over the Liard and Mackenzie Highway to Yellowknife, about 1450 km, partly on unpaved roads. We had never been up here before. Extremely many bison along the route. Yellowknife is the capital of the Northwest Territories and has about 22,000 inhabitants.

I collect used license plates from the Canadian provinces I have visited. These can be bought in certain stores, but unfortunately, there wasn’t any in Yellowknife. The license plate of the Northwest Territories is the most beautiful, as it is shaped like a polar bear. By chance, we talked to a city employee for a while in Yellowknife and asked him where one might get such a license plate. He casually suggested he could check at home if he still has an old one and would bring it to us at the campsite the next day. And he actually did it!

Thank you very much Raymond and Iga, it was a pleasure to meet you!!!
