3rd Day July 11 From Usti nad Labem to Roudnice nad Labem

Gepubliseer: 12.07.2022

After the tiring and exhausting climb of the previous day, the 3rd day began with a speedy descent down to Usti. The hydraulic brakes worked as they should. Halfway there, at the outskirts, I was able to buy an aluminum tube for my broken tent pole at the OBI hardware store and cut it to fit. After that, I cycled to the Protestant Church, where I had been before. The night before, I wrote an email and sent an SMS to the Protestant Pastor of the Hussite Church in Usti, asking if it would be possible to visit the church the next day at either 10, 12, or 2 o'clock and was excited to find out. But at 10 o'clock no one came, there was no email response, and no one responded to the phone number on the notice. So I cycled to the city center and bought something for the day. At 12 o'clock, the same story, no response, and I rode back to the cafe where I had free Wi-Fi to write my blog post and check messages. I didn't even bother with the 2 o'clock appointment and made my way along the Elbe to Roudnice, where there is an active Protestant community of the Bohemian Brethren. During the stopover in Litomerice, I found out that the former Protestant Church no longer exists and has been taken over by the Baptist Free Church. The bike path itself was beautifully located and mostly followed the Elbe. In Roudnice, I immediately cycled to the Protestant Church. There was an email again on the notice board. At the canoe campsite, I immediately sent an email using my hotspot, asking if it would be possible to visit and have a conversation about the community life the next day. Then, at the sight of the old castle in Roudnice, I prepared my dinner. While eating, I suddenly heard a "Bim" sound and my GMX program notified me: "Delivery of the last email not possible". A bit disappointed with the course of the day, I crawled into my tent in the darkness. But sleeping was not really an option because a freight train rumbled past the nearby train station on the other side of the Elbe every 15 minutes. Eventually, I fell asleep.
