The second day in America.
After our first full day in the USA passed yesterday, the second day is waiting for us today, Sunday.
After a good night's sleep, we took a shower at about 9:15 am before having breakfast together with the family. For breakfast, we had bagels with four different flavors of processed cheese, some fresh fruits like strawberries or grapes, and plain yogurt, just like in Germany. During breakfast, we also discussed the plans for today.
After breakfast, we got ready for our first destination of the day, the sightseeing of Iowa City. We visited the football stadium of the Hawkeyes, and I was amazed by its size. Then, we continued towards the university and along the way, we also saw some buildings that belong to the university, such as the faculty of law and jurisprudence. When we arrived at the main building, we got out and explored a bit, and I realized that the entire university campus covers a whole district.
After about an hour, when we drove back, we had our first group activity with the other exchange students. We went to Mount Trashmore, and once we reached the top, we enjoyed a beautiful view of Cedar Rapids. Then, we all went to an ice cream store nearby and had some ice cream. They also had various flavors of popcorn available for purchase.
In the late afternoon, we went to a Walmart to buy a few things we needed for dinner. I was surprised to see that in a Walmart, you can find everything you would need for grocery shopping, as well as items you would find in a hardware store or an electronics store, all in one place.
While we waited for dinner at home, I took a look at the yearbook from the last school year. It was around 200 pages long and included every month and every sport. All the students of Kennedy High School were also featured in the book, with their pictures. When the grandparents arrived, we had dinner with them and had a conversation about typical American and German things.
And so, the second day came to an end... I hope you enjoyed reading the blog entry.
