Bilbao, Portugalete, Pobeña, Castro Urdiales

Gepubliseer: 17.10.2018

My first night in Bilbao was very pleasant, although I had only seen the old town, but it was very beautiful. There were many narrow streets and it was difficult to keep track. There were small "witch-hippie-shops" everywhere again. The hostel was pretty cool, but there were very few people to talk to.

Then came the first stretch from Bilbao to Portugalete. After the initial efforts from the old town up, then down again and then up again, it was mostly comfortable downhill or straight ahead on asphalt roads. After a long way and email contacts with the hostel to inform them about my delay, I finally managed to arrive at the hostel at half past 4. Portugalete is not very big, but it scores points with its special "ferry transport" across the river. And the nice people. Everywhere you are greeted and you hear the greeting "Buen Camino" again and again. After an unsuccessful search for a restaurant, where I was referred from bar to bar, I finally settled for a supermarket salad and went to bed pretty soon after.

Portugalete - Pobeña

After the first, tiring stage for me, a very pleasant second day followed. After getting up early and having a hearty breakfast, it was pretty easy to continue. There's not much to tell, just the beautiful beach that accompanied me from la Arena to Pobeña was a pleasant change from the otherwise asphalt-laden area. I spent the evening with two nice people from Germany who invited me to dinner.

Pobeña - Castro Urdiales

Today we started early in the morning at 8 o'clock (today with three people) along the coast to Castro Urdiales. I notice how running is easier with company, the pace increased and time flew by through the conversations. We managed the 16km in 4 hours despite the rain. However, we had to wait for a while until the hostel opened at 3 o'clock.
