Don Curry drives! That perfectly sums up today. The journey took almost 9 hours, only interrupted by refueling in Kem' and waiting at roadworks traffic lights on the way south. Don Curry narrowly avoided several daring overtakes by Russian drivers. But everything went well.
However, he almost missed his accommodation for today, as there was only a sign for Vremena Goda Inn in the opposite direction. It turned out to be a spacious complex consisting of many different bungalows. Don Curry was assigned a wooden bungalow with a magnificent view of the huge Ladoga Lake.
There are also two small wooden Orthodox churches nearby, which Don Curry discovered on a walk, both of which are always open.
Don Curry wasn't really hungry anymore, as he hadn't eaten anything today, but he went to the restaurant anyway. When he asked the extremely enthusiastic waitress for an English menu, she brought a Finnish one, which was even less helpful to Don Curry than the Russian one. But with the help of WLAN and Google Translate, he soon deciphered the menu, ordered the classic Russian cabbage soup Schtschi, followed by a chicken schnitzel with country potatoes, accompanied by a Belgian Hoegarden - Witbier and a Russian Varim Suslo - Zwickelbier.
With a view of Ladoga Lake, he would soon fall asleep. And he was glad: he didn't have to drive anymore today... In the end, a magnificent full moon over Ladoga Lake reconciled him with all the hardships of this uneventful day.
