Day 6: London

Gepubliseer: 13.07.2023

Now our last day in London has come. We start the day relaxed and it takes us over an hour to get to Notting Hill using public transportation. We stroll through the neighborhood and the market where there are many stands with vintage items, souvenirs, jewelry, and clothing. We look for the filming location of 'Notting Hill' and discover the bookstore and the blue door. But similar to last year in Canada with Rambo, the locations are rather disappointing. The neighborhood has many colorful houses and it is quieter and more relaxed here.
Afterwards, we take the bus to Kensington Palace. This is where William and Kate live with their children. It is possible to visit the palace and the gardens, but we don't have time for that. After a short break, we leave Hyde Park and take the bus to Buckingham Palace. We hope to take photos with fewer people in them, but we only partially succeed. On foot, we go from Trafalgar Square to Leicester Square. It's bustling there and we have a snack for lunch. Then we visit the Lego and M&M Store.

Now our paths diverge. I fulfill a long-time dream and go to see the musical Les Misérables. I have had my ticket for a while and I am sitting in the 4th row of the orchestra section, enjoying the great performance. The different voices of the singers are impressive and it is a fantastic experience. The show starts at 2:30 pm and ends at 5:20 pm. In the meantime, Rene takes the kids to the Natural History Museum. The tickets are free and require a small donation. The museum deals with the history of the Earth, the evolution of dinosaurs with a focus on fossils, and visions of the future in connection with earthquakes, volcanoes, and water levels. The children are particularly fascinated by the fossils, such as a giant dinosaur and a blue whale skeleton in the entrance area. After 2 hours, the three of them start their journey back and we meet again at the bustling Leicester Square. There is the premiere of 'Oppenheimer' with Matt Damon. Unfortunately, there are so many people there that we don't get a glimpse of the celebrities. To conclude our stay in London, we go out to eat and after a short search, we find a suitable spot in a pizzeria. We pay almost 100€ for pizza and lasagna, as well as a drink each. Proud prices, but you're only here once. Now it's time to go back with the metro.
We've had enough of the city. We're tired of the hustle and bustle, the noise, and the long walks on the asphalt. Safety is a priority in London. There is a lot of security personnel around. We never feel unsafe. The people are friendly and accommodating. It is definitely worth a trip.
