16.08. Møns Klint

Gepubliseer: 16.08.2022

After a pitch-black night (we are in the 'Dark Sky Arena'), which unfortunately was cloudy and therefore no starry sky, Sophie wants to visit the Møns Klint cliffs today. This limestone wall is about 120m high and steeply drops into the sea.

We decide to ride the 3km from the campsite by bike, Sammy really wants to ride on his own, which turns it into more of a walk. But at least, he gets his first mountain biking experience. We ride to the Møns Klint Geocenter and take the footpath to the cliffs from there. The circular route first follows the top side (not suitable for people with vertigo) until we reach a wooden staircase that leads down to the sea. The way back, along the base of the cliff, offers many impressions and wet feet. We should have read the tidal plan again (so unfortunately we didn't learn anything from the trip to Mandø).

Climbing the counted 565 steps back up to the Geocenter really takes it out of us - Samuel and Felix run ahead. It's incredible how much energy is suddenly released. The rest of the family (all over 13) pant and curse behind.

As a reward, we get some ice cream, on the way back Samuel unfortunately has a small accident - luckily nothing serious happens, but it does make him cautious when going downhill afterwards.

In the evening, after a game of tennis, we manage to secure the last spot in the campsite restaurant. A nice little pizzeria - a welcome change from cooking in the mini kitchen.

On the way back to the pitch, we spot a bonfire in the woods. Apparently abandoned. We gratefully take advantage of it and enjoy the tranquility, darkness, and being alone. (Except for Sophie, who prefers to go back but is afraid of walking alone, so she chooses to scare herself with the rest of the family)
