8. Thailand - Diving on Koh Lipe

Gepubliseer: 07.03.2018

After receiving strong recommendations from other travelers regarding the diving opportunities and due to the significantly shorter travel time (only 90 minutes on the ear-deafeningly loud ferry (speedboat)) we decided to go to Koh Lipe. This meant that we had to change our original plan and skip the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia. Our flight to New Zealand on March 10 from Kuala Lumpur is fixed.

We had booked 2 dives for March 6th and 7th, which we have already completed at this point in time (observing the approaching storm from the covered terrace and opening the next beer soon).

I would now like to insert some underwater photos of the dives. Unfortunately, my action cam, due to its construction, cannot focus with the included underwater housing. Thanks, Sony. I am still in favor of making it obligatory for all engineers to use their designed products for several weeks. But that could also hit home for me 😁

We met George and Gorden on the tour. They are old pros with 177 and 892 dives respectively, while Martje and I are still beginners with 14 and 10 dives. The fact that such experienced people are traveling with us confirms that we have chosen a good diving school and diving spots. We also received some hot tips for Australia regarding the Great Barrier Reef, which is said to only be worth seeing in selected spots due to coral bleaching.
Tomorrow we will take a ferry, bus, and night bus to Kuala Lumpur.
