Mountain Zebra NP - finally rain!

Gepubliseer: 22.01.2018

22nd January 2018: We get up very early today to go on a safari in the nearby Mountain Zebra NP shortly after sunrise. It has been raining all night and it still looks like a rainy day in Africa. We would have liked to take a guided tour with a ranger to find the lions and cheetahs that are native there. But unfortunately, that is only possible with children over 6 years old. So we decide to go on a predator search on our own early in the morning. The kids are carried sleepily from their beds to the car in the morning and the adventure begins. Unfortunately, it is raining harder and we don't see any predators. But we do see many kudus and wildebeest, a jackal, troops of monkeys with young monkeys, and of course the mountain zebras.

From noon, we cover a 400km long distance to our next accommodation in Bloemfontain. It is raining heavily and thundering. Driving the car is not really fun. The heater is turned on, while in the past few days the air conditioning was running at full speed. Yesterday we had the hottest day in South Africa. When we have to refuel and take a break in the nearby coffee shop, we learn that it has been raining properly here for the first time in 18 months. Much to the delight of the residents. It is raining so heavily that we are not exactly sure how to reach the car from the café. Unfortunately, the rain front does not reach Cape Town. The amount of water is decreasing steadily.
