The sky is cloudy, but it's not raining. We drive back to the highway junction and refill the campervan's windshield washer fluid. Along the route to Anchorage, we mostly drive right next to the sea, so there are still some viewpoints that we visit. These include Birds Point (very touristy), Beluga Point (no whales at low tide), and Potter Marsh Boardwalk. At the boardwalk, we were able to observe a moose up close again, peacefully eating, consuming around 25 kilograms per day. We also visited the meat producer Indian Valley Meats, where we bought some dried pieces to try: elk, caribou, and salmon. We still have some buffalo from the shopping we did before Seward.
Once we arrived in Anchorage, we headed towards the airport and the nearby lake, where seaplanes take off. According to the guidebook, it is the largest seaplane base in the world with up to 800 takeoffs and landings per day. We see it, but drive past without taking any photos because we couldn't find a proper stopping point. Instead, we park precisely at a Starbucks and refuel nearby. However, the internet quality is not good enough for the blog, so we have to wait a bit more.
The journey continued with a detour to Eagle River and the Saint John Orthodox Cathedral there. This church, as well as the accompanying chapel, are beautifully located and unique in their design. After that, we only had a short distance to go before reaching Palmer, where we set up our campsite. After having some food, we hit the road again, but on foot. A walk takes us to a baseball field where the juniors were playing very actively and their parents were equally enthusiastic. On the way back, we also visited the local cemetery. It's not comparable to ours, as the culture here is different as well. Back in the campervan, we let the cards dance again for a game of 'Jass'.
