La Plata and

Gepubliseer: 08.12.2018

La Plata,

This morning I found myself in La Plata, this time starting from a different train station in BA from Estacion Constitution, which apparently serves traffic towards the east and southeast. Same procedure as yesterday, just a different direction. Subte Tren La Plata, a good hour drive where you can get everything, snacks from chocolate to empanadas, hotdogs to teeth-blue dyeing lollipops, plastic sock wraps, tools, pens, puzzle books, and the coolest thing, a glued-together "ambient light" (plug LED color foil), just to name a few. Then a music program with violin+guitar+drums+vocals, very beautiful, and I also gave a donation because it saves power and then they go to the next compartment. Next to me sat an elderly woman with a child/grandchild? who also bought almost everything, socks, lollipops, wraps, god knows what you do with them, OR she was just a decoy buyer - but I don't think so. One thing was missing today, COFFEE, I would have taken that or beer, but I don't think it's allowed on the train. Now outside, the first horses and cows passed by and I caught myself confusing the two, as the cows were larger than the surrounding horses. Well, arriving in the planned city (they needed a new administrative city for the state after BA became the capital), there's not much to see, a few nice administrative buildings in French and Italian style, and the largest Neo-Gothic brick cathedral of the 19th century, and probably the largest church in South America, just superlatives. Then a few students celebrating their exams in a wild way, getting all sorts of stuff poured over them, etc., a broken train station without a roof, and a few delicacies at the small eco-market.

Today is a short day but a bit restful, unfortunately. Unfortunately because it's Friday and there would surely be something to go out in the evening.

Tomorrow I have a small internal party conference - surprise!

So the surprise came faster than expected, I had politely ignored the noise (sirens) on the street, it's always loud here, but I couldn't ignore the banging on the door from the firefighters, I looked out quickly, closed the door again - the house was completely filled with smoke - FIRE IN THE HOUSE! - quickly grabbed the essentials, phone, passport, wallet, and the open sleeve of Quilmes. Slippers on, backpack with the camera, I wouldn't have managed the rest because everything is scattered around the house - damn mess - wrapped a t-shirt around my face and ran out, darkness and thick smoke in the hallway, found the exit thanks to basic geometry knowledge, out onto the street. There was a fire in the restaurant below us. On the street, the other residents and 2 Belgians, also equipped with only the essentials - 🍻 beer and cigarettes. Small talk, followed by more Cerveza at the Spatie, and after 1.5 hours we were able to return to the smoke-filled cave, now it smells a bit like 'very well done'. Now we're airing it out and getting a hectolitre of Febreeze...

I should play Rammstein with Benzin or Feuer frei. Well, it was still a bit of Friday action after all.
