The great bike tour Day 17: at the Lario

So far, every evening I have been looking for the overnight place for the next day, so the bike route was more or less clear. Today I'm starting for the first time according to the motto "let's see how far I can get and what comes up along the way".

It rained heavily overnight, there are large puddles everywhere in the morning, the humidity is at least 100%. It drips intermittently today as well, but at a pleasant 18°, that is much less annoying than the strong southerly wind.

I have to go back the first 10 km of the Valtellina, I only went there yesterday because of the accommodation, but it goes quickly along the Adda. At the northern end of the Lario, I ride a bit zigzag because I didn't want to ride with a navigation device on my handlebars again. I stare too much at that thing instead of paying attention to the surroundings.

On the northwest shore of the Lario (that's what it was called by the ancient Romans) there is a pista ciclabile, a bike path. However, today people of all ages are out for their Sunday walk, mostly with dogs. So you can consider whether to do a slalom between dogs and prams or rather stay on the main road. Somehow, a good mix comes up by itself, the road has the big advantage that I find an open supermarket, so there is not only dried fruit and cheese sandwiches after all.

By chance, I pass by the Museo della Barca Lariana, a wealthy Milanese collects old ships and displays them here in the museum. I don't know anything about nautics and ships, but somehow these very different boats, all from the 20th century, have their charm. And Laura is of course the Ferrari, in 1953 it set a new speed record in the boat class up to 800 kg: 226 km/h, there is the original black-and-white film about it.

According to the internet, the campsite in Menaggio is not that great, but I don't feel like driving any further and still take it.

Encounter of the day at the campsite: a Dutch lesbian couple, 68 and 70 years old, are cycling without electric assistance from home to Morocco, they plan to take 7 months. Well, I still have room for improvement...
