Today we had a great day. Although we slept in a hostel that could have been a prison in terms of facilities, we slept in and didn't leave until 7 o'clock.
Today we didn't take the usual Camino de Santiago, but we took an alternative route. I didn't feel like walking next to the highway all day. The small detour was worth it. We saw a lot of nature. Fiona felt particularly comfortable today since I carried her luggage and she chased after three big deer. But they were faster.
Another advantage of the alternative route is that we saw very few pilgrims. It's a completely different way of pilgrimage, going at your own pace, taking breaks whenever you want, finding your own way, and humming to yourself without worrying that someone might hear you.
Then, early in the morning, a car came towards us on the dirt road. The man was driving slowly and constantly shouting something. At first, I thought maybe he was looking for his dog that had run away. But then I saw 5 huge greyhounds with muzzles running behind the car. It must have been a dog racing training.
We walked 25 km in beautiful weather today and now we are in Hospital de Orbigo. The village is big and very cozy. Our hostel for today is a particularly peaceful place. I hope I can sleep in a bed like today for the next few days because tonight it's 6 degrees again.
Today we cooked with some pilgrims and ate outside in the garden.
Tomorrow we will go back to the mountains and into the rainy area.
By the way, I met a 21-year-old German girl here today. She started from home on July 7th and has been on the road for almost 3 months now. The oldest man I've met here on the Camino is 74 years old and he wants to arrive in Santiago faster than me.
