My host family informed me about 2 weeks ago that unfortunately I have to leave them at the end of December. They said that they won't need me anymore starting from January because Willi will go to kindergarten 5 days a week and Grace will go to daycare for 3 days. And they also have to be a bit careful with money at the moment because Emily is still on maternity leave and Stewart is the only one working.
This news was a shock to me, as it changed all of my plans. I had actually agreed with my host family that I could stay until February, and then I wanted to spend 2 months on a horse farm. So, I decided to drop the horse farm idea for now, and look for another host family where I can stay for about 4 months. With the help of Leonie's host mom, I quickly found a new host family who also lives in Brighton.
The family is friends with Leonie's host family, so Gayle, Leonie's host mom, knew that they were looking for an au pair. I contacted Bree, the host mom of the new family, and we arranged a meeting. At the meeting, I was introduced to the rest of the family and shown around the house. I immediately liked the family from the beginning. They welcomed me warmly and the kids also made a very nice impression.
At the second meeting, we scheduled a date for me to start/move in, and that's how I found my new host family, which made me very happy!
So, on December 14th, it was my last working day with my old host family. For dinner, Stewart brought Fish & Chips after work and we all ate together one last time. After dinner, I even received a farewell gift, which was 2 beautiful Pandora bracelets and a nice card, which I was very happy about.
Afterwards, I distributed my farewell gifts. For Willi, I had a Christmas book and new felt-tip pens (because most of the old ones didn't work anymore), and for Grace, I got 2 drool bibs (she really needed them at the moment because she's teething and drooling a lot) and a small pink ball that she really liked. For Emily and Stewart, I had some delicious Lindt chocolates.
The next morning, I packed my last things and made the bed. Then it was time to say goodbye, as Bree picked me up at 9 o'clock.
