After the first few days in Portugal, here is a first summary: we only meet friendly and helpful people, the weather is great, the landscape in the north of Portugal is varied and now in spring everything is blooming!
At the campsite we buy bread and eclairs from the local baker who drives around the campsite, then we go to Chaves. The hot springs here were already famous in Roman times. Around 100 BC, the Romans built extensive bathing facilities, which were discovered by chance during the construction of a parking garage around 25 years ago. The springs still bubble today at around 70°. In the old town, many buildings are decorated with azulejos (colourful tiles) or still have the typical wooden balconies. We visit the Matriz Church with its wooden vault and then admire the interior of the Misericordia Church, which is completely covered with blue azulejos.
We decide to continue on to Baticas to the Miradouro. The road winds up the mountain and at about 800 m there is a viewpoint from which there is a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape. We enjoy the view with coffee and eclairs!
From here it is not far to the lake "Barragem do Alto Rabagao". There is a fantastically located campsite here. However, today we are eating at home again and we are firing up the barbecue.
