Wir sind in See gestochen! Am Wochenende hieß es ab aufs Boot, Kabinen beziehen, reichlich Lebensmittel einkaufen und verstauen und aufbrechen zu den wunderschönen Inseln.

Vom Starthafen auf Raiatea ging es zunächst einen sehr kurzen Weg nach Tahaa. Dort erhielten wir die fantastische Nachricht, dass wir nach Maupiti fahren können. Da die Einfahrt in das Atoll um Maupiti nur bei bestimmten Wellen- und Wetterbedingungen offen ist (was gerne auch mal mehrere Wochen oder sogar Monate dauern kann), kamen wir gerade zur richtigen Zeit.

Also auf zum wunderschönen Maupiti, einer vom Tourismus noch fast unberührten kleinen Insel im Nordwesten. Ein Schnorchelparadies und Traumstrände warteten schon darauf entdeckt zu werden.

Von Maupiti ging es nach Osten bis nach Huahine. Neben Schnorcheln und Strand haben wir dort auch mit Mietwagen die beiden Inseln erkundet. Nach einem langen Tag mit vielen Eindrücken, einigem Shopping und leckerem Essen kamen wir müde zu unserem Boot zurück.

Nun haben wir die Segel gesetzt und sind auf dem Weg nach Raiatea, Tahaa und Bora Bora. Für alle, die jetzt auf eine Karte schauen und sich fragen, warum wir so sinnvoll hin und her fahren, das liegt am Wind. Leider ist der eigentlich konstante Südostpassat aktuell nicht konstant. Manu unser Skippi flucht schon regelmäßig über die sich ständig ändernden und kaum vorhersehbaren Windverhältnisse.

We’ve set sail! Over the weekend it was time to get on the boat, move into our cabins, buy plenty of groceries, stow everything away, and head off toward the beautiful islands.

From our starting harbor on Raiatea we first made a very short trip to Tahaa. There we received the fantastic news that we could sail to Maupiti. Since the entrance to Maupiti’s atoll is only open under certain wave and weather conditions (and sometimes stays closed for weeks or even months), we arrived at exactly the right moment.

So off we went to stunning Maupiti, a small island in the northwest that is still almost untouched by tourism. A snorkeling paradise and dreamlike beaches were already waiting to be explored.

From Maupiti we headed east to Huahine. Besides snorkeling and beach time, we also explored both islands by rental car. After a long day full of impressions, some shopping and delicious food, we returned to our boat tired and happy.

Now we’ve set the sails and are on our way to Raiatea, Tahaa, and Bora Bora. For anyone looking at a map and wondering why we’re zigzagging around like this — it’s because of the wind. Unfortunately, the usually steady southeast trade winds are currently anything but steady. Manu, our skipper, is already cursing regularly about the constantly changing and barely predictable wind conditions.

Zum Einstieg (und weil ich das oft gefragt werde) einen kleinen Einblick, was als Nächstes ansteht:

Am 18.07. geht es mit der wundervollen Rilana zusammen nach Frankfurt. Von dort aus geht am nächsten Tag unser Flieger über LA nach Polynesien!!! Das andere Ende der Welt ruft schon.

Nach einer Nacht auf Tahiti wird es direkt weiter nach Raiatea gehen, wo wir uns die Insel anschauen und dann ab dem 25.07. aufs Boot gehen. Dann heißt es Segel setzen und auf zu Atollen und Inseln. Nach 2 Wochen Törn gehts nach Moorea und Tahiti.

Wir bleiben dort bis zum 19.08. und landen dann einen Tag später wieder in Frankfurt.

Anschließende Reisen:

08.09.-05.11. Spanien. Ich quäle mich den Jakobsweg entlang und je nachdem wie schnell ich bin, kann ich danach noch dort Orte besuchen.

Mitte November: Ankara (Grüße gehen an Alex) oder Marokko oder doch eine Kombination aus Berlin und Beeskow? Es bleibt spannend.

(Vor)Weihnachtszeit ist Familienzeit, Beeskow ich bin da.

Silvester, Anfang Januar: Ankara oder über den Atlantik segeln... wir werden sehen

Mitte Januar bis Anfang März: Etwa Wärme ist Mittelamerika abgreifen und das fantastische Costa Rica erkunden.

To start off (and because I get asked this a lot), here’s a little insight into what’s coming up next:

On 18 July, I’m heading to Frankfurt together with the wonderful Rilana. The next day our flight goes via LA all the way to Polynesia!!! The other end of the world is already calling.

After one night on Tahiti, we’ll continue straight on to Raiatea, where we’ll explore the island before getting on the boat on 25 July. Then it’s time to set sail and head out to atolls and islands. After two weeks at sea, we’ll continue on to Moorea and Tahiti.

We’ll stay there until 19 August, and land back in Frankfurt the following day.

Next trips:

08 September – 05 November: Spain. I’ll be dragging myself along the Camino de Santiago, and depending on how fast I am, I might visit a few places afterwards.

Mid‑November: Ankara (greetings to Alex), or Morocco, or maybe a combination of Berlin and Beeskow? Stay tuned.

(Pre‑)Christmas season is family time — Beeskow, I’m coming.

New Year’s Eve / early January: Ankara or crossing the Atlantic by sail… we’ll see.

Mid‑January to early March: catching some warmth in Central America and exploring the fantastic Costa Rica (greetings to Jonathan).
