VENEZUELA, A beautiful country in a deep recession

The name Venezuela comes from "Veneziola," which means "Little Venice." In 1499, the Italian Vespucci discovered present-day Venezuela. The stilt houses of the indigenous people reminded him of his homeland.

The Orinoco Delta is a branching labyrinth of waterways, home to the Waroa Indians.

Caracas is the capital and lies in the north in the Caracas Valley, adjacent to the Avila mountain range. The wealthy also live here at the foot of El Avila. They are more sheltered, have clean water sources, and there is less crime. I observed something similar in Santiago de Chile, where the affluent tend to move to La Dehesa, above Santiago into the Andes region.

The poorer residential area is called Ranchos. They mostly cling to the highway or like the Torre David in the center of Caracas. No running water or electricity and hardly any sanitary facilities motivated the residents to renovate the building with makeshift means and their own initiatives.

Simón Bolívar, born in Caracas in 1783, took the Venezuelan capital in 1813. He was the founder of Bolivia = Bolívar; -)) and also the currency of Venezuela, the Bolívar, is named after him.

El Libertador aspired to the formation of a united Latin America, similar to the European Community.

Merida lies southwest of Caracas in the Andean highlands, opposite the highest peak in Venezuela, the Pico Bolívar, with its almost 5000m.

The 80-year-old Juan Felix Sanchez built the El Tisure Chapel. He primarily used natural materials. His buildings earned him the nickname
