This time, too, we are looking forward to the train journey, from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy, and mistakenly think that it will be very relaxed again. In the beginning, it's still okay, even if we have to stand...
The landscape we pass through is indescribably beautiful, but unfortunately we don't see much of it and what happens in the train is just crazy!
We somehow manage to get off in Kandy... luckily, because now so many people want to get on the train to Colombo, crazy!
Kandy is the capital of the Central Province of Sri Lanka, located in the central highlands of the island nation, and with an average temperature of 24°C, it is much cooler here than in the lowlands.
We take a small tour with the tuk-tuk across Kandy to the sights of the bustling city. We visit the Tooth Temple, located on the Kandy Lake, where a tooth of Buddha is kept and serves as a monastery and pilgrimage site.
Since the 1990s, there has been a huge Buddha statue on the Bahirawakanda Mountain, which can be seen from many points in the city.
And then we were also in the Spice Garden, a small plot full of spices that was created to demonstrate self-made ointments and oils.
And here, finally, someone takes care of Ronny's glorious hair - which is known to be very important to him!
Yes, and then we also had visitors! There seem to be countless monkeys here, and we were already told that we have to close the windows, otherwise we will be robbed. Other guests left food on the balcony - what a feast! However, the fun was over for me when one of them hopped into the apartment and tried to take my most expensive tobacco in the world - I was able to consider the short confrontation as a victory! (In the meantime, I had to think of my rabies vaccination several times with relief 😅)
Finally, we have to admit that we have been missing something very badly since Georgia, we even dreamt about it: CHEESE!! Gouda, Camembert, Feta, Emmental, Soft Cheese, Hard Cheese, Sliced Cheese, Cream Cheese, Melted Cheese, Goat Cheese, Cheddar, Mountain Cheese, Halloumi, Cheese Fondue... WE WANT CHEESE!!!
