After nearly four days and many impressions, I actually manage to write a few lines about our first experiences.
After a very long and exhausting flight (17 hours including a layover in Bangkok), we landed in Denpasar, Bali. Our driver Putu (you can see him in a picture) was waiting for us at the airport exit with a sign and took us to our first accommodation, the Serenity Eco Guesthouse in Canggu. Serenity is especially popular among yogis. If you want, you can do yoga here continuously from 7:30 am to 7 pm in different classes. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to do that because we wanted to arrive in a relaxed manner. In general, it was a bit too eco for us, and they only served vegan and gluten-free!! food, right up my alley :-D
Otherwise, it's very laid-back here. Canggu is one of the most sought-after areas in Bali, known particularly for its amazing surf spots. Construction is happening everywhere, new cafes and trendy restaurants are opening here daily. Almost a bit overwhelming for us backpacking novices :-)
Today, we rented boards for the first time and went out into the waves on our own. It was incredibly exhausting and a bit frustrating, we didn't expect it to be like that. Paddling out again and again and getting washed back about five meters with every second wave... but we will keep going, next time we'll get our own surf instructor and see if that helps!
We also moved to a new guesthouse today, Surfing Nomads. It's really cute and completely new. The owner bought the guesthouse just a month ago and renovated it completely. So we have beds that haven't been slept in by many people and a new bathroom with even hot water. It costs us around 6.25€ per night. We booked until Friday for now, if we like it, we'll stay longer :-)
The weather is great for the rainy season, we haven't had much rain so far. It's always cloudy, but that also means the risk of sunburn isn't that high. Don't worry, we still apply SPF 50+ sunscreen diligently.
Well, that's it for now! I hope to have some more stories to tell soon.
Love you all,
Lisl
