Since today we know what is worse than a breakfast with only toast; it is a breakfast without toast. Today there wasn't even bread for breakfast. Matthias asked the lady who is responsible for the breakfast buffet if she could replenish the toast. The answer was 'WE DO NOT OFFER BREAD'. Alright, now we knew what to expect. After a breadless start to the day, we drove to Holland. This town was founded around 1840 by Dutch immigrants. In 1964, they received an original windmill as a gift from Holland. This windmill (de Zwan) is still operational today and is located in the Windmill Island Garden. You really feel a little bit like you are in Holland here. Afterwards, we went to eat Italian. And I think we got the friendliest and funniest waiter in the entire restaurant (Olive Garden). He practically urged us to order the never-ending Pasta Bowl. For $14, you could eat as much pasta as you wanted, and in different variations as well. Even the salad was amazing. We received an entire bowl full and three small breadsticks. Bread, a food we hadn’t had in days. I told him about our experience this morning, and he packed seven small breadsticks into a bag for us to take with us. We were overjoyed. Plus, the food was delicious.
After the meal, we briefly visited the beach of Holland State Park where the lighthouse is, but it was definitely too hot there. So, we drove to Lake Macatawa and found a bench in the shade, where we read a bit and simply enjoyed the view.
Now we had to call Hertz because the engine light came on during the drive back. But the lady on the phone said we could continue to drive the car.
Tomorrow we will head to Chicago.
