Bath - A Spa Town with a Long History

Басылган: 14.08.2024

Bath is one of only two cities in the world (alongside Venice) that is recognized as a complete city as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We made a brief stop in the spa town.
To avoid driving into the city center (and the Clean Air Zone, for which we didn't completely understand the registration process for foreign motorhomes), we parked outside and then took the bus into the center.

We first strolled a bit through the city center, admiring the many buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The city was very lively and full of tourists.

Especially the square in front of the Abbey and the Roman Baths was crowded.

We passed on visiting the ancient Roman Baths: firstly, we were deterred by the long queue at the entrance. Secondly, the next tickets available online would be too late, and we would have had too little time as we planned to join a city tour.

However, we had ordered a surprise bag from “Too good to go” beforehand - a company aiming to reduce food waste by allowing restaurants or supermarkets to sell unsold food at a lower price. At lunchtime, there was a surprise bag at “Sweet Little Things”, a café with a very pink entrance. The contents were indeed very sweet: alongside (delicious) almond cakes, there were four (even sweeter) cupcakes that smiled at us in colorful frosting.
