2nd and 3rd day in Halifax

The City Hall is the largest administrative building in Eastern Canada and is also responsible for the districts of Dartmouth and Bedford. Since 1996, both districts have been part of the Halifax municipality, and the City Hall was built on this occasion.

The population of Halifax is very diverse. On the one hand, there are many older Canadians who have settled here by the water, and on the other hand, it is a student city. Several universities of various disciplines have a campus here. The Nova Scotia College of Art & Design (NSCAD) is one of the largest in Halifax. The artistic flair runs throughout the city, and some buildings are sprayed with artworks.

Located directly by the water is the oldest working clock in Canada: The Dockyard Clock. Originally handmade for a dome in 1772, it has been in Halifax since 1981. It is considered a symbol of the naval yard and represents its significance, both in the past and today.

I noticed many small wooden huts on the waterfront. During the peak season (April to October), all kinds of fresh food are prepared and sold here, especially a lot of fish and other seafood.

Opposite the harbor is Georges Island. The island is made up of glacial moraine and was shaped into a long hill by ice age glaciers. It was named after King George II of Great Britain in 1749. It is only open to the public under special circumstances.

This weekend, the Halifax Lights Festival took place in Cornwallis Park. In addition to a petting zoo and small food and drink stalls, the highlights were ice sculptures. Some of them were already delivered finished, and some were created on-site.

Of course, I didn't miss the Farmers Market here, as you may have already noticed, I love these kinds of markets ;) Although the sold goods are always similar, I still find it beautiful. However, this one had noticeably more stands selling prepared food. After exploring the market, I spent my last evening in Point Pleasant Park. The city park is located in the south of Halifax and is one of the largest in the city. From here, I had a beautiful view of the sunset.
