Hello there,

our journey took us to Homer today, a small fishing town at the very end of the Kenai Peninsula. The highway wound through forests and mountains, past lakes. We made a stop at Kenai Lake. A lake like from a picture book: turquoise, with the mountains reflecting in the water from the opposite shore, and we even saw our first beaver.

Once we arrived in Homer, we first had lunch at a campground right by the sea. From there, a long spit of land extended into the ocean, where there were many boats and small fishing houses next to the ferry terminal. We strolled along there and visited various shops. On the way back, we decided to drive another 25 miles along the coast to reach a viewpoint. The way there was really beautiful, including seeing an elk by the roadside. The last stretch was a gravel road that led quite steeply down to the sea. We preferred to park our car a bit higher up and walked the last bit, as we wouldn't have been able to drive up the hill anymore. But the drive there was definitely worth it, we had a great view!

Our sleeping spot for the next night was about 40 minutes away right on the beach. There were many anglers there when we arrived. And the best thing about the place was that we were surrounded by bald eagles. Everywhere we looked, we saw these huge birds sitting or flying. Sometimes we could even watch them from our car as they ate something on a tree.
