Full of anticipation, we take the Uber to the Surhostel. We drive out of the city, past garbage dumps, until we arrive in a small village. There's really nothing here 😦. When we arrive at the hostel, we realize that the photos don't correspond to reality at all 😅 But no matter, we let the room surprise us. Unfortunately, the hostel owners only speak Spanish. Asma and Lissi understand mas o menos, Scholle simply doesn't understand anything. We get a key and think nothing of it when we press the button on our room door and pull the door. When we try to unlock the door again, we find that the key doesn't fit. We find out that the key is not for our room door, but for the entrance door to the hostel. There are no keys for the rooms 😀 Luckily our room is on the ground floor and the hostel owners can unscrew the fly screen on our window so that Lissi can climb in.
At Chinchorro Beach we first treat ourselves to a strawberry mojito and play tricks. With another mojito to go, we chill out under a palm tree and eat sandwiches.
The next morning we go surfing wuhuuu. Lissi gets up and finds a dead cockroach (which isn't really dead) right in front of our room door. Yuck, we have to get out of here... We were deceived by the beautiful photos and the good reviews. There's somehow no one in the hostel other than us 🤣 When we check again, we see that the last review is from January 2023. We plan to stay another night or two and move on as quickly as possible.
We meet Max and Francesca, who apparently worked in the hostel for 3 weeks and were just as disturbed as we were at the beginning. We joke that there is a curse on the hostel and you will never leave here again. Everybody is laughing. Still. 😳 Somehow we are starting to take the hostel employees to our hearts. Max and Francesca say goodbye to us three times. However, for various reasons, we still stay an extra day. Has the curse already struck?
When they finally made it, we were alone with the hostel people Pancho and Juan. These are just so sweet to us. We're slowly getting the vibe and gradually feeling more and more comfortable. DOMINO becomes a daily routine. Although our Spanish still hasn't really progressed, we communicate with our feet and hands and are actually laughing non-stop. Fun fact: Juan is of the opinion that Asma knows Spanish best and that Scholle doesn't understand anything. Pancho tells us that Plaice knows Spanish best and Asma doesn't understand anything. How different the impressions can be 🤣🤣
We let our creativity run wild and paint a picture for the hostel. This turns out to be a bit difficult with only two colors and no brush. But it still became a work of art 😄
We can't believe we actually pulled off 7 nights. We thought we might be able to do 3, but never do 7. At some point we just accepted the situation. Don't look at anything too closely, spend as little time as possible in the room - then it's all right. 😁
But somehow we are afraid that the curse won't let us go. Fun fact 2: Our bus to Cusco didn't leave that evening. 😶
