Day 16 (22.03.2023)
Our alarm clock rang at 8:30 am, marking the second day on Koh Tao. As always, we started with breakfast. Since Erik seemed to have had enough of sandwiches or reheated meals from 7-Eleven, he stuck with his mango sticky rice for now and thus introduced a new ritual. Ann-Sophie also stuck with her ritual, the sandwich.
Unlike the previous days, today we decided not to rent a scooter but to explore the island on foot. So we walked almost four kilometers in 33 degrees and pure sunshine to our first snorkeling destination Shark Bay. With a lot of luck, you can snorkel with reef sharks at this place. However, luck was not on our side. Nevertheless, we saw many different fish and unfortunately also a very damaged coral reef.
Since we were already at Freedom Beach yesterday and found it very beautiful, the next destination for snorkeling was clear. We spent two hours at Freedom Beach before Ann-Sophie decided to start the journey back. Erik wanted to enjoy the great weather and the beautiful beach a little longer, so he stayed.
While Ann-Sophie relaxed and exercised in the hotel room, Erik enjoyed the holiday atmosphere on the beach for a while longer. On the way back to the hotel, he discovered a guitar in a small café and of course stopped to play a little. The owner of the café even joined in and they played together. But it got even more bizarre. After a short time, Bixie, an obviously drug-dependent American who has been living on Koh Samui for several years, and Jason, another American, joined them. Erik spoke with them for a while before finally returning to the hotel. Looking back, these were quite interesting encounters.
In the evening, we enjoyed the sunset again and had a delicious dinner at one of the nearby restaurants. We ended the evening with two episodes of trash TV.
